  A friend mentioned seeing a few beards in recent pictures of the new world.

  Related: that bible ( book)study video this,week had a woman progressing in da troof starting with an afro, then braids, then straightened hair.

  Christmas Decorations at the Kingdom hall

  i can't remember if i've told this story before .... but back in the day, in irlam congregation (northwest england, uk, cheshire #1 circuit i think) we used to rent a kingdom hall for many years before we eventually built our own.. preston hall.

  ah, the memories .... it was primarily used as a community hall for old folks, but we had it friday night and sunday morning.. there was a loft and fold-out ladder and we used to store the chairs up their.

  every meeting, there would be an assembly line of all the "lads" to pass the chairs down and set them up, then collect them up and pass them back up at the end of the meeting.

  A 3rd or 4th cousin of my dad had money and owned a building with a meeting hall over it. She let the JW s ( she was one) use it. But she also had a New Years party there every year. Chart, text, and whistles mixed Dad wouldn't go. I sure miss her and that part of childhood. It was a 40 mile trip up there, big meals ( Thanksgiving), a mansion to explore, long drives into mountains, a chance to plink with .22s.

  Many times we cleaned an armory after new years for the two and half day assembly. Thats where I spotted my wife.

  A few think it is a life saving work; as in tornado warning. A lot go to socialize, be seen, and to prevent nagging by brother elder.

  Appearance is more important than message--ties, hose, 1954 hair, shaved, dresses.

  Then there are the titles: elder, ms, pioneer etc.

  The work that is neglected is internal--calling on sick, actually helping people. Even an effort to do something for community. Ever see a sign that this stretch of hiway is cleaned up by JWs snoot hill congregation?

  I think a page was secretly removed ( as in taken out) from one book and copied.

  The partwe dont see is marginal notes and oral instructions

  Elder asks my disfellowshipped cousin to leave house while grieving for his grandmother

  fourteen years ago i started a thread on how horrible my disfellowshipped cousin was treated after his mom passed away and the terrible actions on the part of the elders at the funeral home.. 67. horrible conduct by congregation elders at my cousin's funeral.............. well, here we are 14 years later, and things haven't changed!.

  my aunt ( who is my disfellowshipped cousin's grandmother ) was placed in home hospice care.

  the nurse told her daughters ( who are jehovah's witnesses and live with their mother ) that their mom probably has 2 days left to live and that they should call the immediate family.. my disfellowshipped cousin and his sister show up in the early morning.

  "raised in the truth" during the 50s, 60s,and 70s i repeatedly read and heard from the platform how reading the magazines weekly "was the equivalent of a college education" and how many had turned their family economic situation around by being "trustworthy" and giving up expensive bad habits most "worldly people" had.

  sounded good.. what is the reality?

  how does avoiding higher education, and then spending up to 20 hours a week getting ready for, commuting, and then participating in meetings and field service affect family finances?.

  Circuit assembly interview mentioned turning down an apprenticeship. So much for trades.

  We too had Brother "Country club/winter home" who gave the keep it simple talks all the time.
